Program Overview

Through the NSERC-CREATE Program on Machine Learning in Quantitative Finance and Business Analytics (Fin-ML CREATE), we aim to form a new generation of finance professionals to meet the modelling, implementation needs and challenges in the Canadian financial industry, and to facilitate students’ integration into the job market.

Three Types of Scholarships

Exceptional students from participating universities (Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, Concordia University, University of Waterloo, Queen’s University, and University of Calgary) will be selected by competition, and will receive a scholarship to complete the Fin-ML CREATE program in addition to their study program, over the course of one year. It will be offered at (1.) graduate level selected in the Masters and PhD programs in mathematical finance, business analysis, mathematics, statistics, economics, operations research, actuarial science and related disciplines; (2.) Internships will be offered for undergraduates; and (3.) excellence grants for postdoctoral students.

(1.) Our core courses and activities for graduate students will range from technical proficiency to professional and marketable skills. They will be interactive, practice-oriented and mostly in workshop format. These courses, as well as a mandatory collaborative research internship for each student, will help prepare our students for work as multidisciplinary scientists.

FIN-ML
